Two-step verification is a requirement by many governmental agencies and insurance providers to ensure institutions, such as the Lakota Local School District, are doing everything they can to protect confidential and sensitive data.


Two-step verification is also commonly referred to as multi-factor authentication (MFA) and two-factor authentication (2FA). Two-step verification helps protect you by making it more difficult for someone else to sign in to your account. It uses two different forms of identity: your password, and a contact method (also known as security info). Even if someone else finds your password, they'll be stopped if they don't have access to your security info. This is also why it's important to use different passwords for all your accounts.


Two-step verification requires at least one sign-in method to be added to your account. This ensure you are able to access your account when prompted to verify your identify. You have the option of adding one or more sign-in methods, including through:

  • Clicking on an app
  • Typing in a code from a text message
  • Answering a phone call

As a reminder, the the district does not have the ability to view any of your personal information when you use your personal device for two-step verification. This includes call history, text messages, downloaded apps, social media activity, off-network web browsing history, voicemails, or any other type of data classified as "personal data".
