Using the Microsoft Authenticator app is the fastest and most secure way to sign into your account. Should you not want to use the Microsoft Authenticator app, you may also choose one of these other sign in methods:

You may also repeat these steps to add a combination of different sign in methods, or change your sign in method in the future.

The following steps will walk you through how to setup the Microsoft Authenticator app to use with two-step verification:

  1. Sign into Clever here and find the Setup Two-Step Verification button, as shown below:

  3. Select Add method or Add sign-in method, as shown below:
  4. Select Authenticator app from the list, and then select Add.
  5. You'll need to continue on your phone at this point. Install the latest version of the Microsoft Authenticator app (shown below), based on your operating system:

    How to download on iOS:
    On your iOS device, go to the App Store to download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app. Search "Microsoft Authenticator". The app will look like the icon that appears below:

    How to download on Android:
    On your Android device, go to Google Play to download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app. Search "Microsoft Authenticator". The app will look like the icon that appears below:

  6. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app, select to allow notifications (if prompted), 

  7. Select Add account from the Customize and control icon on the upper-right, and then select Work or school account.

    Note: The first time you set up the Microsoft Authenticator app, you might receive a prompt asking whether to allow the app to access your camera (iOS) or to allow the app to take pictures and record video (Android). You must select Allow so the authenticator app can access your camera to take a picture of the QR code in the next step. Your camera will not be used for any other purpose.


  8. Return to the Set up your account page on your computer, and then select Next. The Scan the QR code page appears.

  9. Scan the provided code with the Microsoft Authenticator app QR code reader, which appeared on your mobile device after you created your work or school account in Step 6.

  10. Select Next on the Scan the QR code page on your computer. A notification is sent to the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device, to test your account.

  11. Approve the notification in the Microsoft Authenticator app, and then select Next. Your security info is updated to use the Microsoft Authenticator app to verify your identity when using two-step verification or password reset.

  12. After completing the above step, you are finished! You may safely exit the Microsoft Authenticator app.
